Removing of unwanted hair by means of concentrated beam of light (Laser) is known as Laser Hair Removal Process.
Laser Hair Removal Process generally works by emitting a high concentrated beam which is absorbed by the pigment in the hair i.e, melanin. The light energy from the laser is converted in to heat, which then damages the tube-shaped sacs within the skin (hair follicles) that produce hairs. This damage ensures or delays future hair growth.
However, multiple laser treatment is required to ensures the permanent hair removal. This method is mostly applicable for people having light skin and dark hair.
It is applicable nearly on all the body parts including hand, leg, or even private parts.
A hand held laser instrument is pressed by doctor on to the skin. A cooling device or cooling gel is present on the tip of the instrument to avoid the over heating. Laser beam from the instrument passes into the skin into the hair follicle and damages it. During the procedure, a sensation can be occur or feeling cold due to the cooling agent. Small area like upper lip only takes few minutes while large area like back takes few hours.
After the procedure, reddening of skin or swelling usually occurs. Doctors advised to apply ice over the affected parts. Doctor also advised to avoid direct sunlight for 6 weeks or long.
Risk in this technique is depend on various factors like skin colour, pigment, pre treatment and post treatment care. The most common risk occurs :- Skin Irritation and Pigment changes.
Other side effects are like excessive hair growth at the treated part, greyishness of the hair etc.
Hair may do not fall out immediately after the treatment but multiple treatment may stops the growth of hair for several months.
